Paint Finish

When a paint finish is required, Baker & Davies will prime all joinery in our factory. This allows all joinery to be primed before it is glazed and before doors, sashes or hardware is added achieving a much better coverage and protection.

Baker & Davies use 'Taubmans 3 in 1' undercoat/primer/sealer. This product has performed the best from our own extensive testing of all major brands and products.

All Door sills are coated with linseed oil.

Air Drying

Baker & Davies has their own timber yard for air drying timber. All Merbau and WRC is purchased green and stacked in the timber yard with battens between each length enabling air to circulate. It is then left out for 2-3 years depending on thickness. Air drying timer provides a much more stable and better quality product. Other window manufacturers may use green Merbau, which can move and crack as it dries or use Kiln Dried Western Red Cedar which can be brittle and split.

Timber Treatment

All doors and sashes made by Baker & Davies that are to be primed are dipped in a water repelling treatment. Doors and sashes are cut to their finished size and then dipped. After drying they are primed and then glazed.

Quantum Aquatec is a water repellent treatment that offers broad protection against degradation, discolouration and defacement caused by mould mildew and algae. It is a water dispersed oil coating that is a non-hazardous substance by work safe criteria. Aquatec is an excellent treatment for the prevention of blue stain and other decay in pine and hardwood or as a pre-treatment for exterior joinery components and finished products.

Energy Efficiency

All Baker & Davies windows and Doors can be single or double glazed. Our double glazed units have a large 12mm cavity for maximum insulation. This cavity can be filled with air or argon gas. Most of our glazing is done in our factory prior to delivery but larger squares, due to their weight, can be glazed on site.

Any glass can be specified including laminated, toughened, tinted, Low E or obscure. See attachment for a simple guide to Energy Management comparing six of the most popular glass alternatives. For more comprehensive information of glass performance data go to www.viridianglass.com

With our large timber sections, excellent "air infiltration" ratings (achieved through independent N.A.T.A Testing) and capacity in doors and sashes to have 20mm Double Glazed units, Baker & Davies can help you achieve the required 6 star energy rating.

Timber is by far the most energy efficient material to manufacture windows. Timber has outstanding insulation qualities. The energy required to manufacture alternative materials (embodied energy) such as aluminium or PVC is comparatively huge. While growing, timber absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. When you use timber to manufacture your windows you are reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere through carbon capture.

To help achieve your 6 Star Rating or above for your next project, specify Baker & Davies Timber Windows & Doors. We can also provide custom energy ratings for those who want to go beyond what is available on the market.
